In
South Uist there are many points of local history and much of
this can be discovered at the Kildonan Museum, where the South
Uist Historical Society house many exhibits that reflect the
islands in times past. There is also a modern café and craft shop
on the premises.
Lochboisdale is the main
township, where you can catch a ferry to or from Oban on the
mainland, on most days going via the beautiful island of Barra, further south.
