recent Study Visit to India

International Women's Day 2006

International Women's Day will be celebrated this year on the 11th March 2006 at Liniclate School, starting at 11 am until 4 pm.

Connect - women networking in Uist and Barra join forces with the Complementing our Health Group, to bring you a rich programme of events that focus on the many foreign influences that we are familiar with today, and also some that you may not be so familiar with.

Celebrating Foreign Influences will highlight two dance forms - Belly dancing and Salsa

•  Belly Dancing - from the Middle East . This is a dance of graceful hip drops, rolls, and pivots that utilizes muscle groups in the abdomen, pelvis, trunk, and neck
•  Salsa Rhythm - a mixture of Latin and Afro-Caribbean dances, originating in Cuba, has a pattern of six steps danced over eight counts of music, with a side-to-side feel.
•  There will also be an opportunity to try out some of the many complementary therapies that are available here on the islands during the lunchtime taster session, including Reiki, massage, Hopi ear candle, Reflexology.
•  Lunch itself will offer a range of foreign flavours for you to try out!
•  You can also see the first screening of a film that was made during the recent Connect Study Visit to India , which looks at the lives of rural women in India .

Also, following many requests for this, we are delighted to welcome back Colin Shaw who will give us a short presentation about pensions and the new changes that are coming into force from April onwards. He will then be offering one-to-one sessions for those who would like to discuss their own pension questions in private, which you can sign up for on the day.

We would like to extend a warm welcome to all women to come along for an enjoyable, interesting day, with the promise of many exotic sights, sounds and smells. If you haven't been to an International Women's Day before then this is the year for you to try it, we'll see you there!
